T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee owns a unique set of talents and experiences that help our customers succeed. We spoke with Zac Boyd, CAPP, CPP, T2 Account Manager, to learn more about his discovery of an unexpected love for parking and his genuine appreciation for the industry and its people, today.
Where did you grow up?
Englewood, Tennessee – a small town halfway between Knoxville and Chattanooga, where there was only one red light at the time while I was growing up.
How have you seen success in your role with T2?
I’ve been an Account Manager with T2 since April, 2022 and measure my success by any day I can help a customer meet goals. Most recently, I received recognition at our 2024 Sales Summit, accepting the Renewal of the Year Award, which was humbling. I must say that I share the award with the team since the project was a team effort.
Have you pursued any certifications related to your role in the parking industry?
Yes. I have two designations, actually. Early in my career in parking, I was encouraged to gain industry knowledge and was directed to the National Parking Association (NPA) and the International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI). The NPA offers the Certified Parking Professional (CPP) program that consisted of a study guide and test at the time, which I achieved that certification in 2013. The IPMI offered the Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP) designation, and that was more elusive for me, taking time to accumulate the points needed for certification. It embodies three specific categories – education, experience, and professional development. Both designations have been very beneficial to understanding parking on a macro level that is so important. However, the CAPP designation indicates a level of competency and ongoing commitment to the industry – but above that, it calls for your conduct to be professional and fair. I have a lot of respect for that!
How do you approach continuous learning and professional development within the parking industry?
T2 has been such a blessing in helping me towards this. My position has provided me with the opportunity to attend multiple regional conferences, including IPMI and T2 Connect, that all have sessions for learning and development in the industry.
Who were your role models growing up? And currently?
My father, Kenneth Boyd, because his personal traits such as his self-confidence were admired and respected by many people. My uncle, Ernie Boyd, also taught me to be firm, friendly, and fair in my dealings with others, which I hold on to today.
How did you end up in the parking industry and at T2?
Desperation, really. During the Great Recession of 2008, I found myself unemployed with little hope in knowing what was next for me. I moved to Nashville to seek out a new beginning and the first job I found was waving a flag for a local parking operator. It took humility and perseverance for me, but I worked my way up through the ranks becoming a regional manager. When I would secure a new surface lot, we would purchase the Luke II parking meters for lot operations. I later wound up making a shift to facilities management in 2018 as a plant operations manager in the safety office at a local drug and alcohol rehab organization for about 4 years. Although the work was rewarding there, I could not stop thinking about the parking industry. When I came across a job posting for an account manager position with T2, I immediately knew that I wanted to be part of the team.
What are your hobbies? What do you do to decompress from work?
Fishing mostly, but I also enjoy playing rounds of golf. At work, we have a fun chat channel for the Customer Success team that’s always full of randomness and awesomeness, and provides me welcomed mind breaks during the day.
What is something that you love about the parking industry?
It’s a bit cliché, but it’s the people. The people in parking have proven to be invaluable and supportive of me over the years, which I’ll always be appreciative.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I am a Journeyman Electrician and member of the IBEW Local 760 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
