Employee Spotlight: Nate Wagner

T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee owns a unique set of talents and experiences that help our customers succeed. We spoke with Nate Wagner, T2 Business Development Representative, to learn more about how he ended up at T2, and how he’s made this new role his own.

Meet Nate Wagner

Can you tell us about your journey becoming a Business Development Representative and how you got started in this field?

I’ve held a variety of roles in multiple industries, including sales for a variable data printing company and a sales role for hiring software. My most recent role before T2 involved implementing fundraising software for nonprofits looking to raise money for their causes. Everywhere I worked, the process was already set, and I was simply asked to fill a pre-defined role. What brought me to T2 Systems was the opportunity to join a newly formed team and use my years of experience to build a department designed for growth.

What does a typical day look like for you as a BDR?

I spend my days talking to customers and learning, which has been so interesting. Since parking is new to me, I’m getting to see how much goes into parking management and how T2 Systems is helping the industry with impactful solutions. I really enjoy my conversations with police departments and city leaders, learning about their parking goals and guiding them to the next steps.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role?

Helping those in need has always been fulfilling to me. The process of discovery and the ability to support others on their journey brings joy to my day.

How do you handle challenges, like difficult leads or rejections, while maintaining motivation?

Sales isn’t for everyone; you need to be able to not take things personally. I’ve been hung up on simply for calling at the wrong time. People aren’t just sitting around waiting for me to reach out—they’re busy. My goal is to reach them at the right time without being annoying. In sales, you either win or learn. Sometimes, it just isn’t a fit, but you can listen. If there’s a potential now or in the future, the goal is to understand what they need.

What do you enjoy most about working with your team and the company as a whole?

I appreciate how helpful everyone is. The willingness of others to spend time helping me grow is truly amazing. Leadership genuinely cares about the work we’re doing, as well as our personal development. My coworkers enjoy a good laugh but are also quick to dive in when things get challenging.

Do you have any advice for someone starting out as a BDR or entering the world of sales development?

Have a plan and be disciplined. There will be days when you don’t feel like making another call, but doing your research, knowing what you want to say, what information you need, and how you’ll get it makes it easier. You never know what you’ll uncover with the next outreach—so just do it.

What’s been the best piece of career advice you’ve received so far?

It’s okay to ask for help. We aren’t born knowing everything. We all have instincts, but almost everything else is learned. There are people who have been there before, and people genuinely want to help, so ask when you can.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Pulling an all-nighter comes easy to me. I learned this skill in college because I love meeting people. Different groups are up at different times, and to meet them all, you have to adapt to their schedules. It’s not a stretch for me to stay up for 48 hours, sleep for six hours, and do it again the next day.

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I’m a father of three—two boys and a little princess. Everyone is involved in some form of travel ball, so we spend most of our time at the local ball fields or out of town. I enjoy visiting new places, trying the local food, and, as a bonus, I get to see competitive sports through a child’s eyes again. I love being outdoors, so I spend a lot of time in the yard, piddling in the garden, or simply listening to the sounds on the porch.

If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

I think Ryan Reynolds would be fun to meet. He seems to have a great sense of humor and is smart, which would make for a fun time. With his involvement in so many ventures, I’d be curious to know what drives him and to discuss how he keeps it all together.
