T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee brings a unique set of talents and experiences to the table. We thought you might like to learn more about these talented individuals. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll get to know one employee each month. This month we talked to Xim Vong, a Product Support Engineer.
Where did you grow up?
Believe it or not, I lived in two countries before ending up in Canada. The first place was Saigon, Vietnam. Then I ended up living 8 years in Baden-Baden, West Germany during my childhood. After that, we came to Canada. Our first place in Canada was Bouctouche, New Brunswick, where I started to learn to speak French. After that, I spent 6 years in Trois-Rivières, Québec in my teen years. Then I moved to Moncton, New Brunswick. Now, I can say my home is Vancouver, British Columbia.
What drew you to working in support?
I always loved technology. I’m fascinated with resolving things. Working in support allows me to work with technology challenges, which aligns with providing resolutions. I did work in sales twice before with different companies and it just wasn’t my place. After that, I’ve stuck in support and enjoy working in this sector every day.
How did you end up in the parking industry?
I am always seeking challenges and my (current) coworker Bernice Kossen handed my resume to Khuspal Liversidge. I previously worked with Bernice when we worked together at PNI, and she told me that she liked working at T2 Systems (previously Digital Payment Technology). Another reason why was she told me was how awesome her manager is. That’s when I ventured off to work with T2 Systems, and I’m still happily here.
What do you do as a Product Support Engineer for T2?
Short and simple. Anything that my fellow teammates need help with. It can be an escalation of a case that they need assistance with, or it can be advice to troubleshoot a case problem.
What’s something that you think people don’t know about parking that you find interesting?
People think that it’s just a parking meter and don’t know that there is actually someone behind it who does do the troubleshooting and the support of it.
What do you enjoy about working at T2?
The constant challenges that it provides me to learn constantly. I never get bored. I am someone who likes challenges. The people are just friendly, and of course I have a great manager and teammates that I dearly cherish as well.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’m 50% Chinese and 50% Vietnamese descent. Also, I have two birthdates. How come? In Traditional Chinese, they use the Chinese calendar to celebrate holidays. My mother only remembered my birth date in the Chinese calendar. If you convert that date to the Western calendar, then it is a different date. That explains why I have two birthdates. Now everyone can have an excuse to celebrate two birthdates like me.
