Employee Spotlight: Peleka Maldonado

T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee brings a unique set of talents and experiences to the table. We thought you might like to learn more about these talented individuals. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll get to know one employee each month. This month we talked to Peleka Maldonado, Collections Supervisor.

Peleka MaldonadoWhere did you grow up?

I grew up in Southern California. I was raised mostly in Anaheim. I lived right next to a strawberry field, so just imagine the aroma in the summertime in SoCal. Just 5 minutes away from Disneyland, I had the luxury of seeing Space Mountain from my bedroom window growing up. We relocated to the Midwest when I was 15 due to my father being relocated for work and I have been here ever since. It’s sad to say that after so many years I still am not used to the winters and the blistering cold of the Midwest.

What drew you to working in collections?

I had previously worked in the healthcare industry doing minor collections for an insurance provider. Having previous experience in collections made it easy to transition into parking collections. Learning all the processes and procedures to collect parking citations is what really drew me into working in collections.

How did you end up in the parking industry?

I guess you can say that I ended up in the parking industry by chance. I had applied for a customer service position thru Pinnacle Partners staffing agency. After an abrupt end to my first assignment, I was then referred to T2 to apply for a Collections Associate/Customer Service position. I was a temp for 9 months before I was hired on as a full-time employee. I have been with T2 for almost 4 years and was recently promoted to the Collections Supervisor in Citation Services.

What do you do as a Collections Supervisor for T2?

As Collections Supervisor I currently oversee four Collections Associates. I’m an active Collections Associate, as well. We collect on citations our clients have sent over that are at least 90 days delinquent. We serve as a call center to assist our clients’ customers in payment making, appeals processes, disputing violations, and obtaining validation of debt.

What’s something that you think people don’t know about parking that you find interesting?

It would most definitely be all the consequences to not properly parking your vehicle. Towing, booting, tax intercepts, barnacles, and collections. Who would have ever thought all these things were possible for improperly parking? Working for T2, I have learned so much about the parking industry, parking solutions, and all that encompasses parking in general. Parking is more complex than I could have ever imagined. You learn something new every day about parking.

What do you enjoy about working at T2?

The culture and staff. I know it sounds like it’s rehearsed because you hear it so often, but it just shows that T2’s culture and staff are one of a kind. It’s refreshing to get up in the morning and not dread going to work. T2 is a big family and in Citation Services we refer to one another as such. It’s nice to be acknowledged for your successes. T2 is great at acknowledging accomplishments and open to ideas to make our processes more efficient.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Some things that most people don’t know about me are that I am the oldest of 9 children, a die-hard Raiders fan (no matter where they are), the mother of 7, and grandmother of 1. My husband and I have been together for 19 years and we have a blended family. Together we have 12 children – 6 girls and 6 boys – the modern-day Brady Bunch! As you can see, I’m big on numbers so it is almost fitting that collections was right up my alley.
