T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee brings a unique set of talents and experiences to the table. We thought you might like to learn more about these talented individuals. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll get to know one employee each month. This month we talked to Tonya Jones, Product Support Analyst.
Where did you grow up?
Kennesaw, GA – it’s about 30 miles north of Atlanta. I spent a lot of my small childhood riding a bike with some friends in the neighborhood until the streetlights came on. Speeding down the hills with your hands out like you were flying. I loved my bike and went everywhere on it. I can’t confirm or deny if I went further than I was supposed to, but I will say it was a lot of fun.
What drew you to working in support?
I’ve always worked in Customer Service. I enjoy the challenges of hearing what the customer needs and figuring out how to make that happen as best I can. Every day brings new things to work on, so you have to pay attention to each situation carefully and figure out which direction you need to go in.
How did you end up in the parking industry?
I was living down in Florida and wanted to move back to Georgia to be with my family. I was in the insurance industry for almost 15 years, so along with my return to home, I wanted a career change too. I happened to get hired in Support for a parking software company that T2 bought in 2017. I’ve been here ever since!
What do you do as a Product Support Analyst for T2?
I work on the Flex Support Team in Support. If a customer has an issue with Flex, FlexPort, or Mobile Enforcement, I evaluate what’s happening and help resolve the issue. For example, maybe an import task is giving an error and the customer needs help figuring out what it means and how to fix it. Maybe they want to change the verbiage their customer sees in FlexPort, or it’s been a while since the customer has replaced a mobile device and can’t remember the process. I can help with all of that and more. You have to be ready for anything, like a ninja!
What’s something that you think people don’t know about parking that you find interesting?
It’s so much more than just parking your vehicle. It’s not as easy as painting parking spots in a garage and maintaining the physical structure. There are permits, citations, appeals, garage setups, setting things up so folks can pay and manage their account online, time schedules, fee schedules, and LPR, just to scratch the surface. There are a lot of moving parts to parking that make it work smoothly and easily for parkers. I never realized there was this much that went into it before I came to work in the industry.
What do you enjoy about working at T2?
The people. It really feels like I work with family. Everyone is there to help if you need it, celebrate the highs, and work through the lows. Everyone is willing to share information, not only to help in the immediate situation but to help others grow their knowledge. The “one team” attitude is everywhere, and I love that. I’m lucky to work with a lot of great people every day.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
Since it’s Girl Scout cookie season, I will share that I used to be a Brownie when I was smaller. I remember begging my mom to let me do it, I really wanted to do it. She relented and there I was, a Brownie! A dream come true! Then time would come around to get dressed and go to the meetings and I would cry. Like someone ate my candy bar crying. It was miserable for me and my mom. I hated the uniforms. That was it. I didn’t like the brown. It sounds like I was an easy kid to raise, doesn’t it?
