T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee owns a unique set of talents and experiences that help our customers succeed. We spoke with Jeri Baker, CAPP, T2 Executive Account Manager, to learn more about her discovery of parking and her genuine appreciation for the industry and its people, today.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in West Texas, attending high school in Abilene. I am a huge Rangers fan because of where I grew up.
How do you find success in your role with T2?
I have a lot of empathy for customers and their situations. I’ve been in the shoes of most of my customers at one time or another. When they explain their situation to me, I can provide examples of how I’ve handled it in the past or reach out to my vast network of parking professionals. My knowledge and understanding of the parking industry and how it benefits the customer is my proudest achievement.
Have you pursued any certifications related to your role in the parking industry?
In parking and transportation management, you always hear that employees will rise to the level of the expectations set for them. My CAPP certification is a testament to that. My manager pushed me to pursue it, and I got it! That’s just an indication to me that when you set achievable expectations for employees, they will rise to that level, accept the challenge, and go for it.
How do you approach continuous learning and professional development within the parking industry?
I’ve been involved in parking since 2002. Throughout the years, I have always found parking people to be excited to share their knowledge. That’s one of the great things about this industry — nobody expects you to reinvent the wheel. I think continuous learning and professional development is about being curious, asking questions, and being open to trying things outside of your comfort zone.
Who were your role models growing up? And currently?
I was highly influenced by my mother growing up. She was a super outgoing person who never met a stranger. Now I’m drawn to people who are like that — people who look out for those who have less power and try to utilize whatever platform they may have to make a positive difference.
How did you end up in the parking industry and at T2?
I worked at 3 universities that were all T2 customers. I started in 2002 at the University of Texas, Austin, moved up to the Assistant Director of Parking, then moved to University of Massachusetts as Director of Parking. After that, I became the Senior Director of Parking at Virginia Tech University. It was there, in 2023 that I “retired”. I still wanted to work but was no longer interested in being the boss. When this position at T2 opened up, it was perfect for me! I very much enjoy customer service and taking care of people. Plus, it’s in the parking industry, which I am very familiar.
What are your hobbies? What do you do to decompress from work?
I’ve been involved with hot-air ballooning since 1984. I’m also a golfer — I golf as much as I can with a 16 handicap. I build a fairly large garden every year, and enjoy sharing items from my garden with co-workers at T2.
What is something that you love about the parking industry?
One of the beauties of the parking industry is that everybody wants everybody to be successful. No one gatekeeps their knowledge — they’ll show you where they fell down and how to avoid the same pitfalls.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
Most people are surprised to learn that I’m more comfortable with being an introvert since I don’t present myself this way. I’m very comfortable with just closing up and sitting there from time to time.
