Employee Spotlight: Bernice Kossen

T2 has some of the brightest minds in the parking industry, and each employee brings a unique set of talents and experiences to the table. We thought you might like to learn more about these talented individuals. In our Employee Spotlight series, you’ll get to know one employee each month. This month we talked to Bernice Kossen, a Project Manager.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Manila, Philippines, and spent the first 15 years of my life there before we immigrated to Canada (Metro Vancouver area).

What drew you to working in project management?

I was drawn to the project management methodologies that we have to follow in order for a project to be successful. I enjoy collaborating with others, and collaboration is a huge part of project management. Through that collaboration, I’m able to create and nurture professional relationships in the process. Project management is a transferrable skill, so there’s always an opportunity for growth. One may say that the projects that we do at T2 are always the same. The steps to get there are, but there’s always a different challenge during the execution phase, and that’s why it’s never boring.

How did you end up in the parking industry?

T2 (Digital Payment Technologies back then) found me through a recruiter in 2012. I started as a Product Support Engineer. Six years later, in search of new challenges and wanting to have more responsibilities, I decided to shift my career to project management, and here we are.

What do you do as a Project Manager for T2?

I work with our customers during the planning, execution, and closing phase of the project. Together, we work on developing a plan and identifying the schedule (i.e., equipment shipping and delivery, installation, go live, and training), risks, and resources. Along with the designated Project Manager on the customer side, I am responsible for keeping the project on track – communication and setting expectations are key! – and ensuring that project milestones and deliverables are met. Most importantly, my role as Project Manager is to keep team members, clients, and stakeholders happy and satisfied throughout the entire lifecycle of the project.

What’s something that you think people don’t know about parking that you find interesting?

The “behind the scenes” of a parking operation is very complex and you have to be creative in using the tools available to you.

What do you enjoy about working at T2?

The community that T2 has created over the years has helped me understand the parking industry. I’ve learned, and continue to learn, about our products and processes from the people that I work with at T2 on a regular basis. And I’m continuously learning from our customers on how they use our products and services to streamline their operations.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I was a volunteer First Aid Attendant for St. John’s Ambulance in 2018/2019 in the city that I live in. Once I have more time on my hands, I would like to be a volunteer for the North Shore Rescue Society.
